Traffic Management Designer - Austroads - TTM - TMD1 Course 

RIISS00063 - Traffic Management Designer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads

This skill set addresses the skills and knowledge required for those responsible for developing traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management.

Entry Requirement

This skill set may only be undertaken in addition to:

  • completion of any of the following skill sets:
  • RIISS00060 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads; or
  • RIISS00061 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for High Volume Roads; or
  • RIISS00062 Traffic Management Implementer Skill Set for Motorways and Freeways; and
  • with at least 12 months experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace; and
  • providing evidence of relevant experience setting up at least 20 temporary traffic management types in at least four of the following design types: pedestrian and cyclist controls, construction sites, lane closures, shoulder closures, night works, use of portable traffic control devices and / or motorways or freeways;
  • OR at least an AQF Level 6 qualification in a civil construction, traffic engineering or road design related field; or
  • entry requirements specifically detailed in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management

Course duration: The Traffic Management Designer 1 (TMD 1) course will run over 3 days - Face-to-Face. The course will focus on a combination of  theory aspects of the units and practical assessments.

Post Course requirements: within a 6-month period of completing the theoretical component of the course the student must complete 2 different traffic management plan design types. More info will be supplied in class.

Outcome - TMD1 Skill Set: 

Upon successful completion of the assessment and practical activities, including meeting any pre-requisites, the candidate will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for Skill Set:
RIISS00063 -  Traffic Management Designer Skill Set for Urban Streets and Low Volume Rural Roads
- RIIRIS402E Carry out the risk management process
- RIICWD503E Prepare traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes.
